The Volunteer Consulting Group [VCG], founded in 1969, is a nonprofit organization that works regionally and nationally to strengthen the governing and management capability of nonprofit boards of directors, with a special focus on helping boards and individuals who wish to serve as board members to find each other across boundaries of age, geography, skill and ethnicity.

BOARD CONSULTING: Many organizations request assistance in using their board members wisely and building effective board/staff partnerships. They seek VCG’s guidance as they move through stages of organizational growth, from start up to established or to bring new vitality to a traditional institution. In the current challenging environment, as organizations are faced with the need to fulfill the responsibilities of effective governance, they are increasingly aware that a strong board can make all the difference.

BOARD RECRUITMENT: VCG assists nonprofit organizationswith headquarters in the Northeast Corridorin defining their board recruitment objectives, and then conducts a targeted search for business, professional and community leaders with the desired expertise, diversity of perspective and resources.

BOARD PLACEMENT: The Corporate Board Placement Program’s mission focuses on guiding business executives to boards where their expertise would be valuable. VCG has provided seminars and strategic board placement services to such companies as American Express, Booz Allen Hamilton, Ernst & Young LLP, McGraw-Hill Companies and U.S. Trust. VCG's assistance includes: [1] Nonprofit Board Seminar - A 90 minute overview of the nonprofit environment today, critical questions to be asked in considering a board position, as well as strategies for being an effective board member [2] Executive Civic Assessment and Coaching and [3] Research/Board Election Diplomacy: [a] Organizations whose mission, internal structure and board member standards are most appropriate are researched [b] Introductions and assistance in the diplomacy of the board election process is arranged. Our staff is available for consultation as the new board member assumes the responsibilities of trusteeship.

www.boardnetUSA.org: Nationally, VCG is the founder and creator of boardnetUSA.org, an interactive website: [1] Transforming the way new leaders are identified and guided into nonprofit board service and [2] Fostering a more open and democratic way for nonprofit boards to fill their diverse leadership needs. To date, 294 nonprofits have reported the election of 446 individuals as board members met through boardnetUSA, filling 480 board seats.
